Gear Faults & Checks
Gear breaks. Bootheo gives you two related but separate tools for tracking it: faults (something's wrong right now) and the log (a running service history for the unit).
Filing a fault
From a gear item's detail page, file a fault with a severity and a note describing what's wrong:
- Blocker — the unit can't be used as-is. Filing a blocker automatically flips the item's status to Fault on the Hardware tab, so it stops looking available at a glance.
- Degraded — the unit still works but isn't at full spec. This doesn't change the item's status automatically.
The note is required — a fault with no description doesn't tell you anything six months from now when you're trying to remember what happened.
Clearing a fault
Once it's fixed, Mark fixed on the item clears the open fault and returns its status to Ready. There's no separate "resolve" step to remember — marking it fixed is the resolution.
The service log
Separately from faults, each gear item has a log for routine service history — six entry types: Maintenance, Repair, Observation, Inspection, Upgrade, and Other (which requires a short description of what "other" means, since it's otherwise a blank label). Use this for anything worth remembering about a unit's condition over time, whether or not it was ever actually broken — a cleaning, a firmware update, a note that a camera's been running hot lately.
Between faults and the log, a gear item builds a real history: what broke, when, how bad, and what's been done to it since you bought it.
